THE FIFTH ROUND OF ART PROJECTS' Theme:

"Phoenix, Fractured, Aesthetics, Curves, Window "  picked from a box @ Li Ang residence
Feb. 2014

DEBBIE LI-ANG

"I used to think that if I was free as a bird, I can do whatever I want.  That mindset, I thought, would become more realistic. Instead, with age, I developed some curves in reality.  Subconsciously, I found myself entangled in aiming for the Phoenix. To me, a Phoenix is comparable to having almost perfect qualities in life. Unknowingly, this attitude is disabling me and causing the ground beneath me to fracture.

NOEL GARINGAN
"In a harsh, fractured, fractal world, it is very hard to prove one's self. Often enough, one is overpowered by the challenges and hurdles that one encounters in one's path. There will be burn-outs and defeat. But like a Phoenix, rising from the ashes, there is that inner strength that we can all tap into. One of this is by channeling our inner child, having no fear and full of wonder. This will help us along the current and future situations in life."
 11.75" x 17"
Assorted art paper, tissue, card stock, paint, glitter and laser printout.

Digital output with pen and ink drawing on paper with Lucite - "Happiness Gives Way to Misery Through the Red Door".

A happy couple could only be as happy as how we see them. A paper shadowbox shows a domestic scene where upon a happy portrait of a couple is hung on the wall. We see our image as we follow our lady. We relate to her domestic bliss and contentment as we can see ourselves in her life. But the wife hears something beyond the red door. Could it be the cat playing with a ball of yarn? As she peeks through, misery bestows upon her. Her husband is locked in a passionate kiss with another man.

" My Red Dream about the Door of Emotional Opposites"

The door separates the two sides of the red world that portrays SADNESS.
Ironically, it is also the key that breaks the impasse .

I was inspired to paint this scene from a video I recorded from my travel in Mijas, Spain.
Two subjects: A dark stray dog wandering around aimlessly like a homeless person,
and a rich man's dog who's got everything but can only look out the window.
Opening the red door represents their friendship that brings rapture of HAPPINESS.

THE SECOND ROUND OF ART PROJECTS' Theme: 'Sunshine in The Rain'
was picked from a box

@ Cafe Guy and Gallard,7th Ave.,NYC
September 2012

MAYVELYN 'FRANCIS' GUERRERO RAMOS

Oil on Canvas
Love lost but God's Love shines through in "Sunshine in the rain."

DEBBIE LI ANG

Acrylic on Canvas
It seems odd to see the concurrent rain in the background and no rain in the foreground.
The emotion of the subject here is the "Rain". Is it the feeling of being down, scared or.......that you see in the subject's eyes?
It's in the eyes of the beholder, to interpret its meaning.

Paper
"When viewed, we see raindrops, raining on a grassy field which is drawn on a white paper dress. It conveys a somewhat sad or empty feeling. But with careful inspection and with the help of a light source from the back, we are treated with vision of a girl reading a book. Around her are growth with flowers and a sun, in the shape of a heart. It is easy to conclude or conjure an emotion to what we initially see. But others do find happiness and contentment even in melancholy or gray days."

THE FIRST ROUND OF ART PROJECTS' Theme: "Autumn Leaves" was picked from a hat.
@ Toon , Park Ave.,NYC
June 2012

DEBBIE LI ANG

Acrylic on Canvas
I love the rustle of the Autumn leaves as I kick them around. It brings back the child in me and reminds me of how children could be so worry-free as they play with the fallen Autumn leaves. The arch , the bare tree looking up the sky, the eerie landscape on the background, and the moving water are the earthly elements I used symbolize moments of life.

MAYVELYN 'FRANCIS' GUERRERO RAMOS

Oil on Canvas
Inspired by 'beauty is in the eyes of the beholder' and an idealistic dream
of one of God's beautiful creation, a woman, in 'Autumn Leaves.'

NOEL MONTINOLA GARINGAN

Paper, Fiber
My mixed-media work tends to lean toward using paper and ephemeras. Illustrating my messages in shadow box forms has always been a theme.
With this challenge, I would like to illustrate a young girl, looking up to this tree with falling leaves. Within the texture of the tree trunk, we see faces of the elders, that represents time and wisdom. It reminds us of our mortality and how important it is to be a role model, guide or inspiration to the young mind.

The leaves are falling around her, as if, she is being showered by gifts of the elders. But, the burden of recognizing this, falls heavily on the youth. She may miss it the first time. She is given several chances to do so as the seasons repeat itself.

I wanted to use my newly-discovered, advanced stage of gingivitis in my art and compare the transient nature of the human experience to the falling of Autumn Leaves.

THE ARTISTS

DEBBIE LI ANG

Inspired by bringing inspiration to others....
Art allows me to express myself and to let others get an inside look at my creative life.
Life is short and travelling the world is of great interest to me. I use earthly elements to symbolize Life on this planet.

MAYVELYN 'FRANCIS' GUERRERO RAMOS

God is my ultimate Creator and Artist. I am very grateful for the faculties He gave me,....and the inspiration He made for my Art.

NOEL MONTINOLA GARINGAN

Working as a full-time advertising and digital artist, I needed to get back to basic, tactile expressions. With paper, ephemera and found objects along with my own drawings and paintings, I love doing shadow boxes, collages and three-dimensional objects. When we do art, we are connecting with our own souls. What an ultimate joy if everyone would just sit down and do art without conforming and being afraid.
